CommitteeDescription
RIF (Reading is Fundamental) Chair: - This is a national program that promotes the idea that reading is fun. Three R.I.F. distributions are held each year. At each distribution, students participate in fun activities according to a current theme and each student chooses a new book to keep. Volunteers for this committee will help with R.I.F. Day set-up to assisting students with activities and/or choosing their R.I.F. book. The dates for the upcoming year are October 18, January 10 and April 25.
Knowledge-A-Thon Chair:- This is one of our largest fundraisers and is held in November. Students are given a list of teacher approved questions & are provided with the answers. They study the questions at home and are quizzed by an adult. Teachers may also study questions during class. Students ask family, neighbors & friends to sponsor them by making a monetary pledge for each question answered correctly during testing. Volunteers for this committee may help with organization/planning & coordination of volunteers, as well as asking questions on testing days.
Gertrude Hawk Spring Fundraiser Chair: - Our annual Spring fundraiser is Gertrude Hawk Candy. This is one of the most profitable fundraisers for our school. Volunteers may assist with planning, organization, deadline mailing, record-keeping for taking orders, unloading orders on pick-up day, organizing the orders and assisting with pick-ups.
Great American Fall Fundraiser Chair: - Great American offers a popular variety of gifts, gift wrap and cookie dough. Volunteers may help plan, distribute and receive order sheets, unload and distribute product and organize incentives.
Hospitality Chair: Laura Cosden - Volunteers for this committee may assist with organizing/coordinating and securing raffle donations for Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon/Week and coordinating Family Bingo Night.
Science Fair Chairs: Tim Funk & Valerie Andrews - This is a school wide science fair held in May, in which the students choose their own projects, according to an arranged theme, and prepare them for display at school. We also hold an evening fair and program for the families. Volunteers may help with the following: creativity, set-up/tear-down and monitoring projects.
Boxtops for Education Chair: Kathleen Sease - Plan and run contests to help encourage student participation and motivation to collect Box Tops from participating products and redeem them for cash. There are usually 3 contests held each year. Volunteers may help with the following: counting box tops and preparing them for mailing before the deadline and record keeping (for contests).
Holiday Craft and Store Chair: Patti Ogletree - In December we host a special day of holiday craft-making for the students, as well as a holiday store where students can buy inexpensive gifts for their family and friends. We choose a specific theme for the event and base the crafts off of that theme. Volunteers for this committee will help with a variety of duties: planning the crafts, helping with set-up, volunteering to help students with the crafts, donating decorations/supplies, and planning, setting up and running the store.
